Surrette Battery Company Ltd. is seeking a computer science or software engineering grad to complete upgrades to existing customer-facing digital platforms to assist in the expansion of our distribution network and export growth into new markets outside of North America. 

The candidate will work on several projects, including but not limited to the following:

  • App development; integration of language support, addition of 2 MODBUS protocols, log recording, file/photo uploads, and integration with Freshdesk Solution articles and existing product manuals
  • Modernizing the company’s WordPress-based website, including language support (EN, ES, FR), integration of the company’s existing e-commerce platform, employee information portal, addition of a customer portal, as well as product showcase, filtering and selection based on specifications, applications, and system sizing.
  • Priorities following these may include firmware development efforts for upcoming hardware products, or work porting mobile app to PC and adding additional MODBUS support for new products.   

This contract position will report to the LFP Technical Lead and collaborate with the Marketing, Quality & Sales teams.

Project Schedule: 

Months 1 to 4: App Development (Flutter + Dart)

  • Integrate l10n (or equivalent) language support (EN, ES, FR, etc.)
  • Continuous improvement and potential to rewrite core Bluetooth/Battery Updating code for stability & performance
  • Addition of 2 new MODBUS protocols
  • Additional log recording and photo uploads
  • Integrate Freshdesk Solution articles and existing product manuals into mobile app.

Months 5 to 10: Modernizing the website (WordPress, SQL)

  • Integrating language support (EN, ES, FR, etc.)
  • New WordPress theme/template
  • Re-Integration of existing content, the company’s e-commerce platform, and employee information portal.
  • Addition of 3D product showcase to product page, modernization of battery filtering and lookup
  • Set up and maintain a Battery Passport compliant serial number lookup
    • Customer-facing lookup
    • Landing page/frame for customer displaying database data (production, serial number)
    • Managing data intake for the system from distributors

Months 11 + 12: Contingency

Potential projects based on resources and ease of other integrations.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

Self-starter, independent worker, and problem solver with strong organizational, scheduling, project planning, communication skills, problem solving, troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.

Education/Experience:
Relevant education or training required.

Experience from 0-5 Years accepted, 2-4 years preferred. 

Software/Languages/Communication Methods:

  • SQL/mySQL or other database software
  • WordPress
  • C/C++
  • HTTP POST
  • Bluetooth

Preferred:

Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & PremierePro) and SolidWorks/Blender/CREO/Fusion experience an asset.

Location:

The candidate would be working both from our downtown Halifax office, close to transit, food, and other amenities, and from home, per their individual requirements/desires and job requirements. Located in or around Halifax with access to the office space is preferred.

Compensation:

1-year Fixed-term contract

Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 salary, based on experience & credentials

Expected hours: 40 per week
